Summer Food Donations

Helping Hands is looking for specific items to help us stock our food pantry during the summer months. We're looking for items that are easy for kids to access and eat as they are home from school during the summer. If you or your group would like to collect and donate items, please use this list as a guide.

A Fresh Start to a Healthier You

 

Offered on select Mondays at 1 PM

Taught by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, participants will learn how to provide safe, healthy, and economical meals for their families and themselves. The program is free and will offer lessons that integrate the importance of healthy nutrition with an emphasis on increasing fruit and vegetable intake, physical activity, food safety, and food resource management. Participants will receive recipes, incentive items and educational materials at each class.

Nurturing Parenting

Offered on select Tuesdays at 1 PM

The Nurturing Parenting program, taught by MCH Family Outreach, is designed to support and enhance parenting skills for families with children of all ages. We can provide education on how to meet the needs of growing children, and we can help you talk through difficulties. Staff are trained facilitators of the program and utilize tips and techniques of this philosophy while working with families. Classes will cover the following topics:
- Understanding child development
- Enhancing brain development in children & teens
- Building self-worth & praising children
- Communicating with respect
- Relieving stress and anger in positive ways (child & adult)
- Understanding and developing family rules
- Exploring discipline strategies
- Communicating thoughts and feelings

Your Money, Your Goals

Offered on select Thursdays at 4:30 PM

Taught by professionals from the Cooperative Extension Program - Prairie View A&M University, students will cover a variety of household finance topics, such as:
- setting goals and planning for large purchases
- saving for emergencies, bills, and goals
- tracking and managing income and benefits
-paying bills and other expenses
- managing cash flow and budget through the month
- dealing with debt
- understanding credit reports and scores
- money services, cards, accounts, and loans, and
- protecting your money.

Club Energize!

Tuesdays this summer from 1:00-2:3 PM

Hey Kids! Join us at Helping Hands for Club Energize, led by Un-Included Club Jr. Leadership!

All kids, ages Pre-K (age 4) through 8th grade are welcome. 

Parents must remain on-site while child participates.

Kids' Summer Library

Mondays 10 AM - 12 PM
Thursdays 12-2 PM

Kids up to 18 can check out a book, read it, & bring it back the following week to check out another one, and earn prizes as they meet their reading goals!

WINGS (Women Inspiring through Network, Growth & Strength)

Beginning Mondays in September at 6 PM

Using curriculum developed by local professionals, WINGS is a class designed specifically for women and focuses on healthy relationships, providing education, information, resources, safety planning, and support. Topics include:
- Safety Planning and Resources
- Boundaries and Self-Esteem
- Look into the Legal System
- Children and Violence

Sessions open to women only, ages 14 & up
