Churches and Businesses

Many churches in the Belton area sponsor a month of the year with volunteers.  Time slots are set up by a church to have shifts of time when members of their church can volunteer throughout the weeks of the sponsored month.  Smaller churches or businesses will sometimes select a project to complete at Helping Hands or choose one day or evening during the month when they can help.  Without the volunteer hours, funds, resources and especially the prayer from the partnering churches and businesses, Helping Hands would not be able to meet the needs of its clients the way it does.

Become a Volunteer

There is a time and place for you to volunteer! Helping Hands has hundreds of volunteers who serve countless hours. Hear testimonies from our volunteers.

We are open to the service of our clients from 10am – 4pm on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 12pm – 6pm on Thursdays. Volunteers regularly arrive at 8:00am to prepare for the day and hold a daily prayer meeting 15 minutes before opening.

Congratulations to the 2009 volunteer of the year, Janis Simonds of Miller Heights Baptist Church.

Contribution of Goods

Helping Hands is always in need of food to stock the shelves of the pantry.  Food items that are regularly in high demand are: canned meat (chili, tuna, chicken), baby food, sugar, soups, beans (canned or dried) and dinner mixes.  Non food items that are always in demand are diapers and toilet paper.

You can also help by contributing your unused plastic bottles and plastic bags from grocery and merchandising stores. Don’t throw them away! They are used for bottling shampoo, detergent, dishwashing liquid and for packaging food for clients to receive.

Financial Contribution

If you would like to contribute to Helping Hands financially, we accept donations during our open hours or mailed checks (P.O. Box 1923, Belton, TX 76513.) You can also donate from your computer at home by clicking on the paypal button to the right.

As well as the general budget, donations can be specified strictly for food, the building fund or for Helping Hands 500. Helping Hands 500 is a program aimed to have 500 families committed to contributing $5 a month to help meet the needs of those helped by the benevolence program.

Food Drives

Helping Hands is involved in three major food drives throughout the year. The annual Postal Workers’ Food Drive takes place the Saturday before Mother’s Day in May. Friends Feeding Friends is an October drive for food pantries in Bell County coordinated by the Temple/Belton Board of Realtors. KXTX 10 News in Waco organizes Food For Familes, which collects food for pantries throughout central Texas in November.

Helping Hands always needs help collecting food on the collection days as well as food donated for clients.  Be a part of the community and help during these drives.
